The Hades family must be considerably older than most. Or must have kept better records than most. Because Vlad the Impaler (about 1430 - 1477ish) described the family as ‘unspeakably repellent’. That’s an opinion and a half, not to mention quite a long time ago. We tend to think of Thursday living about now. OK, so Thursday has build your own dodo kits and Gravitube travel, and we have iPads and on demand Korean TV wherever we live in the world, but still, more or less now. But where did her family come from? We don’t know. And goodness only knows when the Hades family began practicing degeneracy.

We already know about the Hades family from Acheron Hades’s book Degeneracy for Pleasure and Profit

And while I think about it, there are a lot of books called something for pleasure and profit: there’s Unicorn Calling for Pleasure and Profit and Dragon Breeding for Pleasure and Profit and Time Travel for Love and Profit which is very nearly the same. Except I’m not sure it includes a lot of profit.

But really, we do have to wonder if the Hades family, being so old and established and unpleasant, is associated with long standing Mafia families from Sicily, Corsica, Calabria or New York. And also, it would be helpful to know where the Hades originated. Byzantium perhaps? What do you think? The Byzantines went in for a lot of seriously unpleasant politics. For hundreds of years.
