Title: A Guide to the Goliath Corporation
Author: Milton Tablitt
Publisher: not known
Source book: The Woman Who Died a Lot by Jasper Fforde (Thursday Next #7)
When I first started reading about the Goliath Corporation that seems to have a monopoly of practically everything from cradle to grave in the world that Thursday Next inhabits, I thought it was a little far fetched. I mean, who wants to see everything you do, and have to do, run by the same company?
However, in the modern world, it seems as though someone has read Milton Tablitt’s magnum opus and decided to adopt the Goliath model for us reals. I may be feeling a bit low this rainy Sunday afternoon, but Meta, Alphabet Inc., BlackRock…. and many more: they all seem to control a bit too much of everything and know a great deal more about us than we would like. Here’s hoping they aren’t investigating travel to parallel book universes or considering multiple clones of their operatives.
Also featured in The Woman Who Died a Lot is Modern Living by Randolph Moles, and On the Edges of Science by Francine Grooper which contains information about the Mad Scientists’ Convention co-founded by Thursday’s uncle Mycroft Next. Mycroft attended every meeting and was eventually awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1988.
