A War History of the Barsetshire Yeomanry by Geoffrey Palliser

The Tanks of C Squadron 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry
Title: A War History of the Barsetshire Yeomanry

Author: Geoffrey Palliser

Publisher: Johns and Fairfield

Source book: County Chronicle by Angela Thirkell

Geoffrey Palliser, Lord Silverbridge, elder son of the Duke of Omnium is writing a wartime history of his old regiment: the Barsetshire Yeomanry. Since his post-war job is with publishing house Johns and Fairfield I have taken the liberty of suggesting that they would have published his book.

Geoff’s younger brother Gerry was killed on D-Day. His sister Lady Cora lost many friends in the war. And Geoff’s wife Isabel Dale lost her first love, John, when he was killed in Italy.

The Barsetshire Yeomanry does not, of course, exist. Because Barsetshire is a county, somewhere in the south west of England, invented by Anthony Trollope. And recycled by Angela Thirkell for her extremely readable series of novels.

However, I expect there were quite a number of military histories or memoirs written in the aftermath of WWII.
