Attitude to Life, a play with music by Aubrey Clover, features Mrs Carvel and her famous wink, Mrs Lipton and Lord Malkin. Aubrey is always the leading man in his own plays, and Jessica Dean is his leading lady. Aubrey and Jessica entertain the troops during WWII, most famously at Umbrella (probably in India).
Aubrey also has West End success with Three for a Letter featuring a character called Rollo Pertwit; Hic Hac Hoc featuring Oliver Lights; If Turnips Were Watches; Home is Best; In for an Inch featuring Mrs Holinshed; He Pulled Out a Plum; Fly Away My Heart; Pigs in Clover.
And there’s also Out Goes She which was a huge success when performed for charity featuring Henley Marlow (Aubrey Clover), Mrs Calliper (Peggy Arbuthnot), Phil Parradene (Francis Brandon). Peggy Arbuthnot goes on to marry Francis Brandon.
Aubrey also wrote a short entertainment called Two-Step for Three which was performed to great acclaim as part of the Coronation festivities* at Northbridge. Aubrey Clover and Jessica Dean acted with Ludo, heir to the Earl of Pomfret.
Aubrey and Jessica marry and have a daughter they call Sarah Siddons.
*The Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II was on 2 June 1953. Famously, the weather was absolutely terrible.
