Korean Chronicle by Hemsley Post

Thanks to the wonderful potter Alice Garland for these images from her website

Title: Korean Chronicle

Author: Hemsley Post

Publisher: not known

Source: TV series Murder She Wrote S1 E17 Footnote to Murder

Hemsley* Post had a huge success with his novel about the Korean War: Korean Chronicle. But he hasn’t published anything for years. He’s a burned out womaniser, whose wife divorced him years ago, and an unpleasant bully too.

A Vietnam veteran called Frank Lapinski has sent the only copy of his as yet untitled novel about the Vietnam War to Hemsley, obviously hoping for an introduction to his agent or publisher. Take my advice and never give or lend the only copy of your magnum opus to anyone.

Hemsley has stolen the manuscript and is planning on passing it off as his own work, telling everyone it will be the definitive book about the war. But Hemsley is murdered (and serve him right) before he can even show the manuscript to his publisher.

Obviously the publicity mad Assistant District Attorney arrests Frank, but not to worry, Jessica Fletcher solves the case.

Also featured in this episode of Murder She Wrote, is Lucinda Lark the author of Woman Unleashed. She seems quite surprised at how successful her book has become. And also she seems quite a nice person. I wish her every success.

*What sort of a new parent names their baby boy Hemsley? How ghastly. Here’s hoping no one ever chooses it for a girl.
