Now don’t criticise me for my politics, because I am a firm believer in vaccines and I won’t listen if you try to dissuade me. Having been very ill with flu more than once I get my flu jab every autumn, and more recently, my Covid jab.

My grandmother caught polio in her early twenties, I think when she was living in Argentina, and had great difficulty walking for the rest of her life. 

My mother caught measles when she was very small, probably 2 or 3, and went deaf in one ear. 

My whole 1960s childhood was defined by all the “childhood” diseases I got. German measles (Rubella), Measles, Chickenpox twice, Mumps, and even Scarlet Fever. Many of my childhood memories are of lying in bed with illness-appropriate toys like Fuzzy Felt. I was immunised against smallpox and polio but other vaccines were not yet available.

Here’s the thing about not getting your children vaccinated. If a child catches measles, for example, they may not become very ill. But serious consequences may be deafness, blindness and even death. In addition, the child could infect their siblings; their classmates; their parents if they have never been vaccinated; and other adults like teachers or church members if they too have not been vaccinated. And of course all these people could pass on measles to their own families. See what Wikipedia has to say about measles. It’s a very interesting article.

Here’s what Wikipedia has to say about Mumps. I had it once, my little brother twice. I honestly had no idea there were quite so many nasty side effects. I mean, did you know it could affect your ovaries?

And let’s not forget the dangers of Rubella for unvaccinated pregnant women.

Don’t @ me but I, along with many other rational people, think that RFK Jr’s aggressive anti vaccine stance in the United States is extremely dangerous and stupidly irresponsible.

Don’t get your vaccine advice from pseudo politicians with their own anti vax agenda. Don’t get your vaccine advice from reddit or somewhere random online. Don’t get your vaccine advice from me. Speak to a doctor.

Anyway, this is a blog about fictional books that don’t actually exist. This is a real book relabelled as written by Robert F Kennedy Jr as a form of protest.
