Source book: The Chalet School in Exile by Elinor M Brent Dyer (Chalet School #14)
In The Chalet School in Exile we learn that Jo Maynard, otherwise Josephine M Bettany, has two published books. Cecily Holds the Fort and Tessa in Tyrol. We are told that she is busy with a third book, but separately we see her correcting galley proofs which seems to indicate that she might in fact be busy writing a fourth book, with her third already at the printers.
Well, this is Elinor M Brent Dyer after all, who never seemed to be able to keep any records of what she’s written. And couldn’t seem to remember from one book to the next what her characters had been up to.
We know all about Cecily, but have no clue at all what Tessa is doing in Tyrol except she’s an English schoolgirl having adventures. Could be absolutely anything couldn’t it?
There is also mention of a book of Guernsey legends collected by Elizabeth Ozanne. She is one of several characters who also feature in EBD’s La Rochelle series. Elizabeth and her sisters Anne and Janie become mothers to numerous children. All the girls attend the Chalet School. I suspect this must be Guernsey Folk Tales by Elizabeth Temple (Mrs Ozanne’s maiden name), which features in Maids of La Rochelle by Elinor M Brent Dyer. Many of the characters from the La Rochelle books feature in the Chalet School series.
