Title: A Short Guide to Trewissick

Author: The Reverend E J Hawes-Mellor, MA (Oxon) LLD (Lond), Vicar of the Parish Church of St John, Trewissick

Publisher: Not known

Source book: Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper

Jane Drew finds this little black-covered book when she accidentally knocks into a wooden chest in The Grey House where she and her family are staying with their Great-Uncle Merry in a Cornish fishing village. Obviously Great-Uncle Merry isn’t really her great uncle, he’s Professor Merriman Lyon, and more besides, and soon Jane, and her brothers, Simon and Barnabas, find themselves in a desperate search for a great treasure. While their parents are distracted by trips to Penzance and promises of shark fishing, the Drew children are following the clues on an old manuscript and fighting the forces of the Dark in pursuit of the Grail. Yes, the Grail.

A Short Guide to Trewissick contains information on rambles in the countryside around Trewissick and Jane isn’t very interested. But then the book opens on a detailed map of the village. It clearly shows The Grey House, and Jane is able to compare the coastline shown on the manuscript with the details on the map.

Also mentioned in Over Sea, Under Stone is an old book called Tales of Lyonesse. It sounds as if it’s a real book, but I’m not sure that it is. Mr Hastings, the fake vicar (in league with the Dark), has a copy.
