The Global Standard Deity by Professor M Blessington PR (retd)

Title: The Global Standard Deity

Author: Professor M Blessington PR (retd)

Publisher: not known

Source book: Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde (Thursday Next #2)

It seems that Professor Blessington’s book is intended as an overview of the new (presumably new) religion which combines a number of different faiths; streamlining, as Professor Blessington puts it.

It sounds as though the Church of the Global Standard Deity is tolerant of many different religious practices, and worshippers are free to come and go as they please.

The first Church of the Global Standard Deity is in Swindon and, wouldn’t you know it, Thursday Next’s brother Joffy is the minister. The Church of the Global Standard Deity features a lot in the Thursday Next books.

It is not at all clear why the Church of the Global Standard Deity has taken over from the Church of England and all the myriad other religions previously available in Swindon, and everywhere else in England, and presumably the rest of the world. Nor why Thursday’s brother should have been chosen as chief minister. Ah well. Perhaps we should read Professor Blessington’s book to find out.
