As usual our Hogwarts students have plenty of books about magic and spells to keep them busy. Obviously they’ve moved up a year so at my school would be in the Lower 4th (but since my school attendance went Lower 4, Upper 4 … (new school) 3rd form, Lower 4, Upper 4….so that doesn’t mean much). Anyway, the first book they need is The Standard Book of Spells Grade 2 by Miranda Goshawk.
And then Ancient Runes Made Easy,
Charm Your Own Cheese,
Enchantments in Baking,
Encyclopaedia of Toadstools,
Flying with the Cannons,
Moste Potente Potions,
One Minute Feasts - It’s Magic!,
Prefects Who Gained Power,
and Sonnets of a Sorcerer. We aren’t given an author for any of these books which is a pity.
I don’t remember the Chamber of Secrets telling us that Ron, Harry and Hermione took cookery lessons this year, but it certainly looks like it, doesn’t it? However, it isn’t that hard to make basic cream cheese in your own kitchen, so perhaps this is about making your own Camembert or Stilton - not so easy - maybe that’s what the magic is for? I can’t help feeling that Mrs Weasley must use Charm Your Own Cheese. She never seems to go shopping and is often depicted waving her wand in the kitchen rather than actually cooking.
They also have to read Gilderoy Lockhart’s books all about his fictitious adventures, which is to say, he totally made up all that he had an adventurous life. If you don’t already know about that click on that link to find out more.
