Title: Murder by the Stockyard Fence

Author: Josephine Binet

Publisher: not known

Source book: The Green Mill Murder by Kerry Greenwood

When Miss Phryne Fisher flies to Talbotville in the Australian Alps in search of her horrible client’s elder son (long since pronounced dead by his unlovely mother even though she knows perfectly well that he isn’t), she meets Josephine Binet; author of detective novels.

We know from several of the Miss Fisher books that Phryne, and indeed, her companion Dot, are keen readers of detective stories. Phryne tells Jo Binet that she thought Murder by the Stockyard Fence was excellent. ‘I usually work out who did it in the first three chapters,’ she tells Jo. ‘I didn’t work yours out until chapter ten.’ Jo confides that chapter ten was when she worked it out too. Most unfortunately we have no idea what the book is about - except there’s a murder… presumably by the stockyard fence.

Jo lives in Talbotville with her partner Anne who is the local nurse. They point Phryne in the right direction to find the missing man. Of course Phryne finds him but then has to watch his unpleasant younger brother try to kill him.
