Last Among Prequels by Jasper Fforde (maybe)

Title: Last Among Prequels

Author: Jasper Fforde (maybe)

Publisher: Hodder and Stoughton (perhaps)

Source book: First Among Sequels by Jasper Fforde

Remember when the James Bond films used to finish with a big graphic saying “James Bond will Return in… Goldfinger” or something? And we all waited a year or more for whatever title it was.

So, at the end of First Among Sequels we are given a whole page of possible Thursday Next sequels. Thursday Next will return in… The War of the Words or Last Among Prequels or Apocalypse Next or Dark Reading Matter or Paragraph Lost or Herrings Red or The Palimpsest of Doctor Caligari or The Legion of the Danvers, or possibly even Some Other Title Entirely: which might be a pretty good title for any aspiring author to consider.

There is no clue as to what any of these potential books would be about but presumably Thursday’s husband Landen Parke-Laine, her son Friday, her daughter Tuesday, her imaginary daughter Jenny (named after Commander Bradshaw’s wife - except Mrs Bradshaw’s name is Melanie), and her dodo Pickwick would all feature.

Of course, the follow up to First Among Sequels is in fact One of Our Thursdays is Missing. So the answer is that none of the options is the right one.

Also a possible Thursday Next book suggested in First Among Sequels: Thursday Next Returns - This Time it’s Personal.

Thanks very much to Jasper Fforde who I once met (slightly) at a wedding (actually I met his mother more), for book jokes much better than any of those perpetrated by Charles Dickens.

Film posters have changed quite a bit over the years haven’t they?
