A History of Magic is on the list of set books for first years at Hogwarts. As is Magical Theory by Adalbert Waffling. Both extremely useful to Harry who thanks to his ghastly uncle and aunt hasn’t the faintest idea about magical anything.
Then there’s A Beginner’s Guide to Transfiguration by Emeric Switch,
One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi (also listed as One Hundred Magical Herbs and Fungi which I suppose is the same book) by Phyllida Spore,
Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger, and
The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection by Quentin Trimble.
My goodness! The students at Hogwarts have an awful lot of reading to do. At my school we only had to read one book each term (for English Literature), and small chunks of books about Geography and stuff. Does Harry Potter ever study Geography? I don’t remember any Geography lessons. Do you?
