What? Not another fictional book about some kind of magic? Yes, there do appear to be quite a lot, don’t there? Somehow authors who write books about magicians, or at any rate people who practice magic, are determined to back up their characters and plots with fictional reference books about (probably) fictional magic. And how to practice it.
Mr Gogerty visits the Paul Carpenter Memorial Library to study a copy of the Manual of Transdimentional Displacement (the 1831 edition, with the addenda and the charming period illustrations) which is still the standard work, and one of Mr Gogerty’s favourite reads. There is only one copy in existence, in this reality at least.
Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Sausages is a very complicated book about pigs, lawyers, dry cleaners and chickens. The Manual of Transdimentional Displacement might be a less peculiar read because there does seem to be rather a lot of transdimentional displacement happening all over the place. Unfortunately the Paul Carpenter Memorial Library has been destroyed by fire. So no chance of us visiting it then.
