Title: Augustus Whiffle on the Care of the Pig
Author: Augustus Whiffle
Publisher: Not known
Source book: Blandings Castle by P G Wodehouse
Lord Emsworth, he of numerous Blandings stories by P G Wodehouse, is an enthusiastic breeder of pigs. His favourite sow, the Empress of Blandings, first appears in the short story collection Blandings Castle. When Lord Emsworth is not down at the piggery communing with the Empress he is quite likely to be found in his study reading Augustus Whiffle’s authoritative 700 odd page tome On the Care of the Pig.
As you are aware, On the Care of the Pig does not actually exist. Not being an expert I won’t attempt to cobble together a selection of porcine facts that might have appeared in Mr Whiffle’s book. But should you need to update your piggy knowledge I can direct you to Lord Emsworth’s Annotated Whiffle which apparently you can actually buy. But it’s only 128 pages and doesn’t exactly get rave reviews: caveat emptor.
