Author: Cilla Bubb

Source book: Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde (Thursday Next #2)

“Ever since calories and ‘sugar intake’ were discovered the realm of the pudding has suffered intensely”, says Cilla Bubb in her passionate defence of sticky toffee pudding and Bakewell tart.

It is odd, considering the number of people I know who say they would rather eat a starter and a pudding than bother with a main course, how few restaurants have taken this on board. Cilla Bubb is obviously concerned that desserts, puddings, sweets, and sweet food generally, may disappear from our diet. I wonder if her book includes recipes?

Towards the end of Lost in a Good Book Thursday has to save the world from a terrible fate: a mystery pink goo from beyond the end of the world. Oh the horror!

But thanks to a dodo related accident she discovers the goo isn’t a terror from outer space (or similar) but strawberry flavour Dream Topping. It will make you fat if you eat too much, and sticky if a jar full of it explodes all over you, but it’s unlikely to bring civilisation to an end.

Well that’s lucky.
