Jill Pole and Eustace Scrub are travelling north with Puddleglum the Marsh-wiggle in search of Prince Rillian, the long lost son of Eustace’s friend King Caspian. They are given suspect information by the Lady of the Green Kirtle, that they will be welcomed at the giants’ castle of Harfang, to take part in the Autumn Feast. By chance they discover a cookbook which contains recipes for both Man (“This elegant little biped has long been valued as a delicacy. It forms a traditional part of the Autumn Feast, and is served between the fish and the joint”), and Marsh-wiggle and they have been welcomed as prime ingredients for the feast.
If I remember correctly, Marsh-wiggle can taste a little muddy. Yum yum!
I would not normally include a book without a title or an author (or a publisher) but this collection of recipes provides such a vital plot device. Without it our heroes might have ended up in a pie.
