The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism by Emmanuel Goldstein
Author: Emmanuel Goldstein
Publisher: Not known
Source book: Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell
Although I read Animal Farm (it’s about pigs) and Brave New World (card indexes) when I was younger, by the time we reached 1984 I hadn’t got around to reading Nineteen Eighty-Four (politics?). At the time I felt it wasn’t worth struggling to read a book I didn’t like the sound of (still don’t), especially as I felt I had missed the deadline as it were. And now it seems likely I won’t ever get around to it. So many other books are calling to me.
Anyway, apparently The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism features prominently in Nineteen Eighty-Four. This fictional book, written by Emmanuel Goldstein, the principle enemy of the ruling party of Oceania, provides background on concepts explored in Nineteen Eighty-Four. And it seems there’s quite a lot to read online about The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism.
